Some people would claim to be a doctor or a professional and since we do not check up on their public records, we assume that they are. There are a lot of people that pretend to be other people just to gain a job. Also known as identity fraud, there are some people that would change their names, create stories about their college degrees and we would often trust them because they look true.
This is common to the movie Catch me if you can wherein the protagonist, Frank Abernale was able to cheat others through the use of fake diplomas without any public records and fake IDs. Because he was convincing, he persuaded other people to trust him and they did. It turns out that he was not only a fake but he was also counterfeiting money. He was not caught for a long time and he was able to embezzle millions of money.
Before, there was no way for people if they are handling someone who is trustworthy. They would often rely on their gut feeling and their emotions. However, since there were a lot of frauds before, the government is now handling public records or records about citizens. If a person claims that he has graduated through college and he has a degree on law or medicine, the government would be able to check if he is lying or not.
There are also schools that keep previous records of their students and alumnae. Through the use of public records and school records, we would be able to track out any frauds and fake healers. We would be able to know if our employees are lying or if their records are fakes. In using various resources, we would be able to protect ourselves and our company from any fraudulent activities.
The escapade of Frank Abernale was kept from the public because of various reasons. If the public ever knew that they were handled by a fake doctor, they would be outraged and they would blame the hospital that hired him. The hospital would handle both humiliation and law because they forgot to check up on their doctors. This scenario is not only focused on the hospital but also to various institutions. Imagine, someone who has no public records or a college degree in education would teach your children in school. If this happens, you might be spending a lot of money on useless learning.
In some jobs, we would hire specialists to finish a job without checking its public records. For instance, we would hire an architect to handle the designs of a building and we would require a structural engineer to check up on the foundations. If your architect has no public records or college degree, then we might be leading our company to ruin. We should always be aware on the past of our employees and workmates with the help of public records before we can assume of their true motives. If we do not check up on them often and we do not try to have a background check on them, then we might suffer our mistakes in the future.
